Privacy

We protect any private information about our members or any other individual. With minor exceptions, we do not publish any member information on this site. (The exceptions include such things as the names of speakers at our events, the names of officers, the contact information for joining the society or purchasing books and so on.) We do, of course, include excerpts from historical sources which include references to individuals; but only material which is already in the public domain.  If you find that any information on this site violates the privacy of you or your family, either directly or indirectly, please let us know and we will correct this unintended error.

We do not share, transfer, sell or exchange personal data we hold with any third party, other websites or other external bodies for commercial, marketing or market research purposes.

Cookies

‘Cookies’ are small text files that are stored by the browser (e.g. Chrome, Internet Explorer or Safari) on your computer, tablet or mobile phone. They allow websites to store such things as user preferences.

Site performance cookies

This type of cookie remembers your preferences, so you don’t have to re-set them each time you visit. Examples include: configuration of tools, including third party (e.g. volume settings on YouTube videos), or your search criteria when searching/browsing the site.

Anonymous analytics cookies

Every time a user visits our website, web analytics software provided by a third party generates an anonymous analytics cookie. These cookies can tell us whether or not you have visited the site before. These cookies cannot be used to identify individuals; they are used for statistical purposes only. Your browser will tell us if you have these cookies, and if you don’t, we generate new ones. This allows us to track how many individual unique users we have, and how often they visit the site. RHS may keep track of the links and pages our customers visit within the RHS website, in order to determine what RHS sections are the most popular. IP addresses of visitors are automatically analysed to assess which pages are the most popular. These are not linked to any personal data; all visitors to our site remain anonymous. Personal information will only be collected when you email the RHS. Where you voluntarily choose to give us your personal details, it will be used exclusively for providing you with information or services you have requested, unless otherwise stated on the form, and it is not stored on the website.
