Introduction
Ridware Study Group was formed in January 2004 to encourage, undertake and collect research on Ridware history. The group is part of Ridware History Society. The Society benefits greatly from areas of research that are undertaken by the group, which regularly presents the results of their research to all members.
The group meets approximately four times a year. Meetings consist of general discussions and update reports on specific areas of research.
Membership
Membership of Ridware Study Group is open to any members of the Ridware History Society with an interest in carrying out local history research. For information contact Helen Sharp
Activities
Group projects have resulted in publications on the Derry family of Hill Ridware, the High Bridges and the skirmish between Mavesyn and Handsacre beside the River Trent in 1403 (see Publications page).
We also encourage individual projects and aim to support one another with research ideas, feedback and editorial assistance.
Current individual projects include:
- the pubs of Armitage, Handsacre and all the Ridwares
- the Armitage pottery in the 20th C
- Ridware connections with colonial India
- a cheese factory in Hamstall Ridware
- The Orgill Family’s journey from Rough Park, Hamstall Ridware to Memphis, Tennessee
- The Elizabethan Recusants of Hamstall Ridware
If you have an interest in researching local history, please come and join us.
